Beginner Firearms Course

A Shepherds Tactical Training Course

The Beginner Firearms Safety Training Course is a non-live-fire class designed to provide a clear, approachable introduction to firearm safety and responsible handling. This course is ideal for new firearm owners, those considering ownership, or anyone wanting a solid safety-focused foundation in a comfortable learning environment.

This is an informative course only and does not include live fire or shooting practice.

The course begins with a guided lecture portion that includes instructor-led discussion, visual slides, and written materials. During this time, students will learn core firearm safety principles, basic firearm parts and terminology, safe storage practices, and general responsibilities associated with firearm ownership. The goal of this portion is to ensure every student understands how firearms function and how to handle them safely before any hands-on practice begins.

All students are required to complete and pass a written exam following the lecture portion. This exam confirms understanding of the material and is required in order to move forward in the course.

After successfully completing the written exam, students will participate in a supervised hands-on practical. This portion focuses on safe handling skills only, including proper grip, muzzle awareness, trigger discipline, and basic loading and unloading procedures using training aids.

Once firearm handling, training, and manipulations are completed, students will take part in dry fire practice using laser-based training technologies. These exercises allow students to safely practice trigger control, sight alignment, and basic marksmanship concepts without live ammunition. This portion is designed to build confidence and reinforce proper technique in a safe, controlled environment.

A brief written or skills-based assessment is included at the end of the practical portion. Successful completion of this assessment is required for students who wish to advance into Intermediate Firearms Training.

Courses generally last 3 to 5 hours, depending on the needs and experience level of the student or group.

Pricing for the Beginner Firearms Safety Training Course starts at $150 per person. Pricing may vary based on course needs or customization, and discounts are available for additional students taking the course together.

This course is designed to be educational, supportive, and confidence-building—providing students with the knowledge they need to move forward safely and comfortably.
