A TX DPS Training Course Offered by Shepherds Tactical
The Texas Level II Security Certification Course is a state-required training program designed for individuals seeking employment as non-commissioned security officers in the State of Texas. This course provides the foundational knowledge, legal understanding, and professional standards required to work in the private security industry while performing duties in an unarmed capacity.
This is a classroom-based course and does not include firearms or live-fire training.
The course begins with a structured lecture and instructional portion led by a certified instructor. During this segment, students will review the legal authority and responsibilities of private security officers in Texas, including the limitations of their role. Instruction includes discussion of the Texas Private Security Act, the Penal Code sections most relevant to security work, use-of-force concepts, observation and reporting, ethics, and professionalism while on duty. Students will also learn about situational awareness, communication skills, and the importance of maintaining a professional presence while representing their employer and protecting people and property.
Visual slides, instructor discussion, and written training materials are used throughout the class to ensure students clearly understand the information being presented.
All students are required to complete and pass a written exam following the instructional portion of the course. This exam verifies comprehension of the material and confirms that the student understands the legal and professional expectations associated with working as a security officer in Texas.
Upon successful completion of the course and written exam, students will receive the documentation required to submit their Texas Level II Non-Commissioned Security Officer Certification application through the state licensing system.
