Youth Firearms and Defensive Tactics Training Program

A Shepherds Tactical Training Course

Our Youth Firearms and Defensive Tactics Training programs are thoughtfully designed to introduce children to personal safety and firearm awareness in an age-appropriate, supportive, and engaging way. We offer training for students as young as 5 years old, with the understanding that every child develops at a different pace and brings unique learning needs.
These courses are not one-size-fits-all. Instruction is customized based on the individual child, what they are ready to learn, and what instruction is appropriate for their age, maturity level, and attention span. Our goal is to create a positive learning experience that emphasizes safety, respect, and confidence rather than pressure or fear.
Before any training begins, parents or legal guardians are required to meet with us alongside their child. This meeting allows us to get to know the student, discuss goals and expectations, and determine whether the child is ready for firearm safety instruction, defensive tactics training, or both. This step ensures the safety and comfort of the child, the family, and the learning environment.
Youth training sessions are designed to be creative and engaging, using teaching methods that align with each child’s learning style. Concepts are introduced gradually and reinforced through age-appropriate activities, discussion, and guided practice. For firearm-related instruction, the focus is on safety, awareness, and responsible behavior. When appropriate, live fire may be introduced only when we determine a student is ready and with the full knowledge and permission of a parent or legal guardian. Defensive tactics instruction centers on personal safety, awareness, movement, and simple strategies for seeking help and staying safe.
To prevent fatigue and information overload, youth courses are taught in one-hour increments. Most students will require multiple sessions to complete their training. These sessions may be scheduled over consecutive days or spaced out every other day, depending on what best supports the child’s learning and retention.
Siblings may train together at a discounted rate, provided they are reasonably close in age and able to participate at a similar learning level. When appropriate, joint training can encourage teamwork and shared understanding while still maintaining individual attention.
A parent or legal guardian is required to be present for the full duration of every class. This requirement supports transparency, reinforces learning at home, and ensures the child feels secure throughout the training process.
Pricing for youth courses varies based on the length of training, subject matter, and individual needs of the student. We are happy to discuss options and create a plan that fits both the child’s development and the family’s goals.
Live-fire exposure, when approved and carefully supervised, is approached with intention and care. We believe that allowing a child to safely experience a firearm under close, guided instruction can help reduce unsafe curiosity and foster a healthy respect for the responsibility and power involved—encouraging mindfulness rather than recklessness.
Our youth programs are built around patience, safety, and respect. We believe early education—when done responsibly—can help children develop strong safety habits, awareness, and confidence that serve them well throughout their lives.

Mission Statement

Our mission in addressing firearm safety and defensive tactics is to eliminate unsafe practices and serve peace of mind to any individual who would like to expand their safety technique. By focusing on each step with a detailed training course that involves hands-on training, education on state and federal laws, and course material that continuously builds on the previous step, we strive to create safety, respect, and knowledge for the benefit of the community.
